“Get good books into your houses.”
Thomas Watson
When the apostle Paul was in prison, he made a request to his dear son in the faith, Timothy, “When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments.” (2 Tim. 4:13) Paul, during imprisonment, desired some companionship. And whose companionship did he seek? The steady and encouraging companionship of books! Of course, he longed to see Timothy and would be encouraged by his visit, but Paul desired his cloak to warm his body and his books and parchments to warm his soul.
For a limited time, The Road Church is making available a table of Christian books for sale. These materials are very, very reasonably priced at $2 a book and this includes several commentaries and a few Bibles as well. The topics covered are varied: discipleship, church planting, missions, leadership, study guides for individual books of the Bible, etc. The authors are diverse: John Piper, John MacArthur, Ray Stedman, etc. There is a little something for everyone, so please check out the table in the foyer against the back wall. If you have any questions about the topics, the publishers, or the authors, please see Pastor Dale. Let’s close with Solomon’s advice regarding books:
11The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings; they are given by one Shepherd. 12My son, beware of anything beyond these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh. 13The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. (Eccl. 12:11-13)
Have a blessed week and we will see many of you on Sunday.
Love in Christ,
Pastor Dale
