Dear Church family,
It is my pleasure to recommend to you the following book, Held in Honor: Wisdom for Your Marriage from Voices of the Past (Scotland: Christian Focus Publ. 2015, 132pp.) by Robert L. Plummer and Matthew D. Haste. This is a very readable text that blends devotional content from across the centuries and modern-day wisdom from the authors. They have done the church a double service. They have written a book that will both serve as an introduction to some of the great Christian voices of the past (e.g., Ignatius of Antioch, Augustine and Richard Baxter) and will also spark helpful conversations between husband and wife. Is this a book only for married couple then? Not at all, it would also benefit older teens and single adults as they contemplate the possibility of Christ-centered marriage.
